The Virgin Mary appeared to several visionaries at Garabandal, Spain. She told them about a future event that has come to be called the Miracle of Garabandal, or simply the Miracle, when a Permanent Sign would be placed at Garabandal, and all who were present would be healed of any illnesses or injuries.
The visionary named Conchita knows the date of the Miracle, and she will disclose it to the whole world 8 days before. She has also said that the Miracle will coincide with an event in the Church that has rarely happened before.
In my speculative eschatology, I have concluded that the Miracle of Garabandal is the same as the third secret of Medjugorje, which also promises a Permanent Sign. Furthermore, I believe that Permanent Signs will be miraculously placed by God at numerous sites of true private revelation around the world, and that innumerable persons around the world will be miraculously healed, all on that same day.
For a long time now, I have said that the event in the Church mentioned by Conchita as coinciding with the Miracle is likely the canonization of Pope John Paul II and perhaps also of one or two other Popes. So how does the current date for the beatification of Pope John Paul II on May 1 of 2011 effect that prediction? It brings it one step closer to fulfillment.
Usually, there is a substantial length of time between a beatification and a canonization. There were only two years and about 18 days between the beatification and canonization of St. Therese of Lisieux — one of the shortest spaces of time. However, a Pope has the authority to declare a person a Saint ‘a motu proprio’ (by his own initiative), that is to say, apart from the usual process. The Pope is always subject to the teachings of the Church on matters of faith and morals. But on matters of mere rules and rulings, the Pope is free.
It is possible that Pope John Paul II could be canonized this same decade, in the 2010’s. Although my past predicted dates for the Warning, Consolation, and Miracle were wrong, I still believe that these events will occur in the 2010’s. The next year that fits my understanding of the timing of these events is 2016: Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and then May 12th in the evening (vigil of our Lady of Fatima).
As some members of my discussion group, CatholicPlanet.net, have pointed out, the body of Pope John Paul II will be moved to a crypt in the chapel of Saint Sebastian. This location is providentially related to the Miracle of Garabandal, since the full name of Garabandal is San Sebastian de Garabandal (Saint Sebastian of Garabandal).
For more on the secrets of Medjugorje and Garabandal, see my book here. Be advised that the dates I give for the Warning, Consolation, and Miracle in that book are incorrect (dates in April and May of 2011).
