My Eschatological Predictions for 2013 through 2016

Please understand that my writings about the future are speculative eschatology, based on study and interpretation, not based on knowledge that is absolute or certain. This post was updated 24 Nov 2014.

As has been announced publicly, the holy Pope Francis will canonize Popes John 23 and John Paul II on 27 April 2014.

Pope Francis will have a brief reign, ending perhaps sometime in 2016. He will issue magisterial teachings that will upset many conservative Catholics, including: that non-Christians can be saved without converting to Christianity, that non-believers can be saved without converting to belief in God, and that the Church has the authority to ordain women as deacons (only). His teachings will prompt the departure of many conservative Catholics as part of the great apostasy.

Pope Francis will not only teach that the Church has the authority to ordain women solely to the deaconate, but he will schedule a starting point for these ordinations to occur. So I speculate that, in January of 2016, the Church will begin to ordain women deacons.

After the end of Pope Francis’ reign, a very conservative Pope will be elected: Cardinal Arinze as Pope Pius XIII, I think sometime in 2016. The Cardinals as a group tend to be very conservative, and many will not have been happy with the liberal but orthodox reign of Pope Francis. So they will choose a conservative to succeed him.

But the new Pope will not reverse the teaching that women can be ordained as deacons, nor will he stop these ordinations from occurring. So the conservatives who departed from the Church during the reign of Pope Francis will not soon return.

Then the new conservative pope (holy Pope Pius XIII) will issue magisterial teachings, under Papal Infallibility, that will upset many liberal Catholics. And they will depart from the Church, just as many conservatives left the Church under Pope Francis. This departure represents another step in the great apostasy.

As the great apostasy unfolds and worsens, eventually the vast majority of Catholics will depart from the Church. They will no longer call themselves Catholic. They will no longer attend Mass, even at Christmas and Easter. They will no longer seek a Catholic baptism for their children. Many parishes will no longer have enough attendees to continue as a parish. Many Catholic colleges and universities will convert to become a secular or a non-Catholic Christian institution. This set of events unfolds over a number of years, during the time that the first part of the tribulation is beginning to unfold.

At some point in time (probably 2015), Pope Francis will issue a formal decision against the claimed private revelations at Garabandal and Medjugorje. I think that he will also decide against the many false private revelations that plague the Church today. But his successor might also have a role in rejecting many claimed private revelations. And the decision of the Church against many claimed private revelations (most false and a few true) will also prompt some persons to leave the Church. For many millions of Catholics have become attached (for better or worse) to one or more claimed private revelations.

But in March of 2016, the events predicted at Garabandal and Medjugorje will begin, thereby proving that those two claimed private revelations are truly from God and the Blessed Virgin Mary.

25 March 2016, Good Friday — the Warning of Garabandal (first secret of Medjugorje)
27 March 2016, Easter Sunday — the Consolation (second secret of Medjugorje)

Through my work in biblical chronology, I determined that the first Passover of Jesus’ ministry was in A.D. 16. So the 2000th anniversary of that event occurs in 2016. At that first Passover of His Divine Ministry, Jesus purified the Temple by driving the buyers and sellers out of the Temple. Similarly, by means of the Warning on Good Friday of 2016, Jesus will purify the Church on earth by striking the conscience of all sinners on earth, including within the Church. Many great sinners will repent greatly. But then, too, many sinners will reject this correction, and thereby fall away from the Church as part of the continuation of the great apostasy.

12 May 2016 — double canonization of Popes Pius 9 and Pius 12
12 May 2106 — the Miracle of Garabandal (third secret of Medjugorje)

As the Book of Revelation teaches, the tribulation begins with four sets of events, termed the “four horsemen of the apocalypse”. These events, in my interpretation, are:

1) World War 3, a war of the Arab/Muslim nations against the U.S. and Europe
2) severe civil unrest throughout the world
3) food shortages, rationing, and famine in wealthy nations
4) death from many causes (including disease), and the effect that the fear of death has on society

When do World War 3 and the other events begin? Sometime in 2016m after the Warning and Miracle. The start of World War 3, in my view, depends upon how soon Iran obtains nuclear weapons. Iran may already have one nuclear bomb; they need at least a few nukes to go to war. Iran will initiate the war by striking New York City with a nuclear bomb. My current thinking is that this will occur in 2016, only weeks or months after the Miracle, but in any case before the end of the papacy of Pope Francis.

When Iran obtains a few low-yield nuclear bombs, the nation will suddenly be more powerful. The Iranian leaders have aspirations to make Iran a world superpower, but they perhaps do not agree on the path to take toward that end. When Iran becomes a nuclear power, I expect that there will be a power struggle within the Iranian leadership. The result will be that the current President of Iran, Hassan Rouhani, will become Supreme Leader of Iran, in place of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. It would be unprecedented for anyone to hold the office of the President of Iran and the position of Supreme Leader at the same time. However, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was the President of Iran prior to becoming Supreme Leader. Rouhani needs this unprecedented amount of power in order to wage war against the U.S. and Europe.

    Hi Ron-
Some people argue that Jesus cleansed the temple twice as the chronological account in John differs from the other gospels. Is this true and if so does does it have any meaning for future events?

  2. Phillip says:

If I were a betting man, my guess is the next pope will be Cardinal Marc Ouellet, particularly if Francis has a short reign. He is widely reported as having placed second to Cardinal Bergoglio in last conclave, whereas Cardinal Bergoglio placed second to Cardinal Ratzinger in the conclave of 2005.

With a shorter reigning pope, a large number of the electors would participate in the next conclave that were also present in the 2013 conclave.

As was the case with Cardinal Bergoglio (now Pope Francis) the electors have supported him in 2005 seem to have remembered the personal qualities of the candidate even eight years later.

Assuming Cardinal Ouellet is still alive and in good health, I see him fitting the bill perfectly as a conservative doctrinal pope in the mold of Benedict XVI (I could see him taking the name Pius XIII or Benedict XVII). His more reserved personality might be a welcome change to the elector, who, by then might be looking for breather after the whirlwind papacy of Francis.

But this is based on nothing other than my own speculation and an armchair Vatican Watcher.

There is a loose-knit opposition to Pope Francis building in some circles. Many Catholics have fallen into the trap of identifying themselves with a Catholic subculture to such an extent that they take their beliefs and practices exclusively from that source, without regard to the Pope and the Magisterium.
