A Helpful Way to Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet

I offer to my readers this new version of the Divine Mercy Chaplet. The prayers are said as usual, except for the “Sorrowful Passion” prayer. I’ve changed the wording of that prayer from the original wording:
“For the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us and on the whole world.”
to a wording that is longer and more specific (see below).

Also, at the end of that prayer, I add an intention for a person or group or situation. The intention can be the same for each of the ten prayers in the decade, or a different intention can be offered with each of the ten prayers. One good approach is to mention a different person with each of the ten prayers “and have mercy on [Name].” Another approach is to mention a different group or situation with each prayer, such as the ill, the aged, persons suffering from unjust violence, the victims of some natural disaster, lost souls, the holy souls in Purgatory, etc.

I believe that recited prayer is more effective when the wording is varied and adapted to person and circumstance. Please ignore anyone who insists that only the traditional wording for each prayer is acceptable. God gave us the gifts of reason, free will, and emotion and He expects us to use those gifts in accord with his grace.

=======================================
pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet on the Rosary Beads

recite:
one Our Father
one Hail Mary
one Apostle’s Creed

Then begin the Decades of the Chaplet, as follows.

recite the following prayer once:

Eternal Father, I offer you the Body and Blood,
Soul and Divinity of your dearly beloved Son,
our Lord Jesus Christ,
in atonement for our sins
and those of the whole world.

recite the following prayer 10 times:

For the sake of Jesus Christ’s sorrowful passion
and death on the cross,
have mercy on us poor sinners
in need of repentance, conversion, and healing,
and have mercy on [name a person or intention].

recite the following prayer once:

O Blood and Water,
which gushed forth from the heart of Jesus
as a font of mercy for us,
I trust in you.

The above three prayers are one Decade of the Divine Mercy Chaplet.
After five Decades, close with the following prayer, recited three times:

Holy God, Holy Mighty One, Holy Immortal One,
have mercy on us and on the whole world.

=======================================

The Divine Mercy Chaplet is a powerful prayer
to obtain the help of providence and grace, or
to bring sinners to repentance and conversion, or
to obtain special favors from the mercy of God.
