Expect Misreporting and Misinterpretation of the October Synod

When the Pope issued his recent decision permitting all priests to lift the censure of abortion, the mass media misrepresented the situation. And the commentary from many Catholic sources also distorted the decision. Expect no less when the Synod issues its decisions. The Mass media will misrepresent whatever the Synod decides. And many Catholic sources will distort these decisions.

The approaching schism and the subsequent apostasy is rooted in the current situation: most Catholics are poorly catechized — they badly misunderstand Church teaching. Catholics today widely disagree on almost every question of faith, morals, and salvation, and each person thinks his or her own understanding to be correct, often in direct contradiction to magisterial teaching. So when the Synod decides numerous questions on doctrine and discipline, I would expect that misreporting, distortions, and misinterpretations will join with the ignorance and arrogance of many Catholics to cause grave problems for the Church.

A schism is coming, but it is not caused by the Pope or the Synod. It is caused by the widespread ignorance of Church teaching among Catholics, and the arrogance of so many Catholics which places each one’s own understanding above the teachings of Tradition, Scripture, Magisterium. Few persons today humble themselves to accept those teachings of the Faith which are contrary to their own desires and misunderstandings.

Pride goeth before a fall.
