Catholics who implicitly support blessing abortion clinics

Fr. Charles Pope explains: That Blessing of an Abortion Center was an Act of Sacrilege. Yes, it was.

But what many Catholics do not realize, is that the same type of sacrilege occurs when any Catholic priest or theologian argues in favor of abortion or abortifacient contraception. They are, in effect, blessing abortions by using the teachings of the Church and the sacred science of theology — gifts to us from Jesus Christ — to provide theological rationalizations for these grave sins. They might as well join in the literal blessing of abortion clinics, since they already bless abortions by their incompetent, or even malicious, theology.

[Matthew]
{18:3} And he said: “Amen I say to you, unless you change and become like little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
{18:4} Therefore, whoever will have humbled himself like this little child, such a one is greater in the kingdom of heaven.
{18:5} And whoever shall accept one such little child in my name, accepts me.
{18:6} But whoever will have led astray one of these little ones, who trust in me, it would be better for him to have a great millstone hung around his neck, and to be submerged in the depths of the sea.

When any Catholic argues against the teaching of the ordinary and universal Magisterium that intrinsically evil acts are always immoral, any intrinsically evil acts, they imply that the intrinsically evil acts of abortion and abortifacients are likewise justifiable. For all intrinsically evil acts have the same structure, consisting of the knowingly chosen act, its disordered moral nature, and its evil moral object. Justify any intrinsically evil act, even a venial lie, and your thinking can be applied to every intrinsically evil act.

Why is there such enthusiastic deep-rooted support for abortion and contraception in secular society? It is because those sins are useful in supporting grave sexual sins. If you wish to live a life of unrestrained sexual indulgence, you need abortion and contraception to deal with, avoid, or destroy the natural consequences of sexual intercourse: the procreation of children. And we see this same support in the works of many conservative Catholic authors, they justify intrinsically evil sexual sins, along with contraception and abortion. For these are merely different branches of the same wicked tree.

Which is worse, blessing an abortion clinic, or publishing theology which justifies contraception, abortifacients, abortion, and grave sexual sins? The latter is worse, as more souls are harmed. Those who blessed the abortion clinic committed a grave sin for themselves. But I doubt that their actions will have any effect on the abortion rate. However, when Catholic priests and theologians offer theological rationalizations for intrinsically evil acts, especially sexual sins, contraception, abortifacients, and abortion, their words affect the decisions made by individual Catholics.

I see this frequently over at Catholic Answers Forums. A Catholic posts a question, regarding the subject area of contraception, abortifacients, abortion, or sexual sins, asking in all sincerity what is and is not moral. And then many commentators, usually under cover of anonymity, make the false claim that various grave sins are moral and are approved by the Church or by supposedly faithful theologians. And these claims actually cause the individual to state, publicly, that they have now decided to commit the grave sin, or have decided to use abortifacient contraception while sexually active. These false teachings result in actual prenatal deaths, and in actual persons choosing to commit objective mortal sins, on the basis of false claims that such acts are approved by the Church or are approved by faithful theologians.

How many prenatals have died because certain commentators or authors approved of the use of abortifacients for sexually active Catholic spouses? How many Catholic spouses have committed grave sexual sins because they read a discussion online, or an article or book, approving of sexual sins? If you make a sincere mistake in your own life, that is one mistake. But if you go online, or you travel as a speaker, or you publish articles or books, and you approve of abortifacients or abortion or grave sexual sins, you do harm to many lives. Your mistake, if it is even sincere, causes vast harm to Catholic marriages and to the Church. These authors have influence over many thousands of souls, and they use that influence to promote sin and death.

Teachers will have the stricter judgment (cf. James 3:1).
